Through our festival supporters and sponsors, we have a limited number of Country Link rail passes to give away to film makers. Plus Bankstown City Council has generously offered to match this by supplying funds to these same crews for accommodation.
How do you take advantage of this great offer? It’s simple!
Just email us why you want to film in either Bankstown or Broken Hill and tell us your preferred travel dates and the number of crew who will be travelling.
The best submissions will win these travel and accommodation packages.

Throw your arms around this year’s theme and embrace the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Reel Deal Short Film Festival! All films, including animation entries, must have at least one scene that includes an embrace of some form. The theme does not have to affect your films storyline or genre and can be used in any of its many forms.
- We can embrace with passion but also with tenderness.
- We embrace when we say hello and when we say goodbye.
- We embrace in celebration or to offer comfort and compassion.
- We embrace when we are happy, sad and even when we are scared.
- We embrace people, but we also embrace things and
even thoughts and ideas.
The full brief requirements for the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Reel Deal Short Film Festival are:
- At least one scene from each film is to include a location shot in either Bankstown or Broken Hill. This can be any location in either city, but the location must be noted on the entry form. Maps and location suggestions can be found in the resources section on this website (not required for animation entries).
- All films, including animation entries, must include the specified 2008 Festival theme somewhere in their films. The theme or subject matter for 2008 is an embrace.
- Apart from animation entries, all films must be no longer than 7 minutes, including titles and credits. Animation films must be at least 1.5 minutes or longer.
- All entries must be registered between April 4, 2008 and June 16, 2008.
- All entries must be submitted by Monday June 30, 2008.
